Bombay High Court Directs MALSA to Explore Part-Time Role for Rape Survivor

The Bombay High Court directed Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MALSA) to explore engaging a rape survivor in a part-time role in legal services programmes.

The interim order was passed on her plea under the Compensation Scheme for Women Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault/Other Crimes, 2018, and Manodhairya Yojana Circular dated January 1, 2024, where she sought compensation and assistance in securing employment.

The Maharashtra government submitted that Rs 4 lakh minimum compensation would be awarded.

The Court ordered Rs 1 lakh be credited to her bank account and Rs 3 lakh be placed in a fixed deposit for 90 days, and directed rehabilitation assistance under Central government schemes such as Ek Sakhi.
