The Bombay High Court has expressed concern over the recurring spike in Mumbai’s air pollution during the autumn months, noting widespread non-compliance with civic guidelines in a suo motu PIL.
The Bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad constituted a four-member committee to inspect pollution hotspots and monitor adherence to MCGM’s 27-point construction and emission rules.
The Court observed that construction dust and vehicular emissions remain major contributors despite repeated directions.
The committee, supported by MCGM and MPCB, has been asked to file a report, while both authorities must submit affidavits on immediate and long-term mitigation steps.
