Bombay High Court Grants Anticipatory Bail in Alleged Cow Meat Case

  • Case Name: Salim Ibrahim Shaikh v State of Maharashtra

The Bombay High Court granted anticipatory bail to Salim Ibrahim Shaikh, charged under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 for allegedly selling cow meat.

The case began when police raided Shaikh’s shop and seized 110 kg of meat, suspecting it to be beef. But Shaikh claimed it was buffalo meat, legal in Maharashtra, and provided a purchase receipt as proof.

Justice Rajesh Patil granted anticipatory bail, citing lack of concrete evidence and a pending forensic report. The court allowed him to remain free but imposed conditions, including a ban on continuing the business.

Shaikh will be released on a 30,000 PR bond with one or two sureties.
