Bombay High Court Grants Interim Protection to Asha Bhosle's Personality & Moral Rights

The Bombay High Court has granted ad-interim protection to playback singer Asha Bhosle’s personality and moral rights, restraining AI platforms, online marketplaces, and sellers from cloning her voice or exploiting her image and other attributes commercially without authorization.

Justice Arif S. Doctor observed that unauthorized use of a celebrity’s name, caricatures, or other traits violates their publicity and personality rights.

The singer had approached the Court alleging that several defendants were offering AI-cloned versions of her voice, selling merchandise using her likeness without consent, and uploading AI-generated videos imitating her voice.
