Bombay High Court Grants Interim Relief to Uber Against Violent Protest Threats by Rickshaw Unions

The Bombay High Court on July 23 granted ex parte ad interim relief to Uber, restraining rickshaw unions and others from disrupting its services or damaging vehicles during planned protests.

Justice R.I. Chagla heard Uber’s plea, which highlighted escalating threats, including vandalism, intimidation of drivers, and disruption of rides.

Uber submitted that unions had issued pamphlets inciting protests and violence, demanding a ban on bike taxis and parity with other transport modes.

Noting the urgency, the Court barred all named and unnamed defendants from interfering with Uber’s operations until further orders. The matter will be heard next after notices are served.
