The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court has held that revealing demographic information such as proof of identity, birth or address to the police does not amount to disclosure of personal information.
The State of Goa had sought an order directing the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to share the demographic data of an Israeli national who allegedly obtained an Aadhaar card without valid documents.
The man, facing multiple criminal cases, had still managed to secure the Aadhaar number.
The Court said such disclosure would assist authorities in investigating how the card was issued.
