Bombay High Court Imposes Costs for Unverified AI-Generated Submissions

The Bombay High Court held that the Revisional Authority exceeded its jurisdiction by relying on extraneous documents and misconstruing a registered leave and license agreement meant solely for residential use.

The Court observed that proceedings under the Maharashtra Rent Control Act cannot be converted into a forum to decide collateral contractual disputes.

It further observed that the respondent’s unverified AI-generated submissions, containing non-existent case law and repetitive content, wasted valuable judicial time. While acknowledging that AI may aid legal research, the Court held that parties must strictly verify all material placed on record.

Consequently, the Court restored the eviction order, directed immediate possession, and imposed costs of ₹50,000 on the respondent.
