Bombay High Court Penalizes Anil Ambani ₹25K for Seeking Urgent Hearing in Tax Matter

The Bombay High Court imposed a ₹25,000 cost on industrialist Anil Ambani for seeking an urgent hearing on his plea challenging an April 2022 Income Tax notice. 

The court ruled that Ambani’s urgency was unjustified, as the notice was merely a show cause and could be challenged within three years. The court directed him to pay the amount to Tata Memorial Hospital. 

Later, Ambani’s lawyer informed the court that the Income Tax department had already issued a final assessment order. Based on this, Ambani chose to withdraw his plea, which the court permitted.
