Bombay High Court Allows 29-Week Pregnancy Termination For 12-Year-Old Rape Survivor

A 12-year-old rape survivor approached the Bombay High Court seeking permission to terminate her 29-week pregnancy. A medical board opined that although the termination was high-risk due to her age and advanced gestation, it was medically feasible with proper care and consent.

It was argued that forcing the minor to continue with an unwanted pregnancy would severely impact her physical and mental health and violate her bodily autonomy.

The petitioner relied on the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and relevant precedents allowing late-term abortions in exceptional cases.

The Court allowed the termination, emphasising the girl's autonomy and well-being.
