The Bombay High Court sentenced Vineeta Srinandan, former cultural director of Seawoods Estates in Navi Mumbai, to one week of simple imprisonment and fined her ₹2,000 for criminal contempt.
Srinandan had circulated a letter accusing High Court and Supreme Court judges of being part of a "dog mafia" after the court restrained her housing society from preventing a resident from feeding stray dogs.
The court found her remarks derogatory and scandalous, stating they were calculated to undermine public trust in the judiciary.
Her sentence has been suspended for 10 days to allow her to appeal to the Supreme Court.
