On July 15, 2025, the Bombay High Court dismissed a PIL requesting directions to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to stop ignoring right-wing leader Vinayak Savarkar’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
The division bench cited the Supreme Court’s prior dismissal of a similar plea by the same petitioner, Pankaj Phadnis.
The court noted an ongoing criminal defamation case against Gandhi filed by Savarkar’s grandnephew in Pune.
While Phadnis argued that Gandhi, as Leader of the Opposition, should not disparage Savarkar, the Court refused to intervene, directing him to pursue remedies through appropriate legal forums.
