Bombay High Court Dismisses Plea Challenging 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections Citing Lack of Evidence

  • Case Name: Chetan Chandrakant Ahire v UOI & ors

The Bombay High Court dismissed a writ petition challenging the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, over 76 lakh bogus votes allegedly cast after the closing of the poll.

The Court emphasised that the plea, based solely on a newspaper article, lacked credible evidence of malpractice or legal injury, and held that the petitioner, being a voter from a single constituency, had no locus standi to challenge election results across the entire State.

The Court observed that the petition bypassed proper remedies under the Representation of the People Act and was barred by Article 329(b) of the Constitution, and accordingly rejected the plea without imposing costs.
