The Bombay High Court has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board whether the site earmarked for the new High Court building at Bandra East features in a report identifying locations with poor Air Quality Index levels.
The query arose while the Court was examining a report of a court-appointed committee which flagged dangerously unregulated demolition activity at a government colony in Bandra East, posing serious risks to public health and air quality.
Noting a prima facie lack of monitoring by civic and pollution authorities, the Court directed the BMC Commissioner and the MPCB Member Secretary to remain personally present on December 23.
