Bombay High Court Warns Mumbai May Face Delhi-Like Air Quality Crisis if Construction Pollution Continues

The Bombay High Court has flagged rising air pollution levels in Mumbai, cautioning that unchecked construction activity could push the city towards a Delhi-like air quality emergency.

Hearing a suo motu PIL, the Court criticised poor enforcement, non-functional air sensors, and a lack of dust-control measures at construction sites.

Emphasising that the right to health is a fundamental right, the Bench said compliance cannot be limited to paperwork.

It directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to place on record immediate and concrete steps to curb pollution and ensure protection of construction workers.
