Bombay Lawyers Association Moves High Court for Uniform Mentioning Procedure

  • Case Name: Bombay Lawyers Association vs. Bombay High Court
  • Judge(s): Justice AS Gadkari and Justice Kamal Khata

The Bombay Lawyers Association (BLA) has approached the Bombay High Court, challenging the inconsistent mentioning procedure followed by different benches for urgent case listings.

Currently, after filing a petition, lawyers must mention cases before the roster bench for early listing.

The BLA argues that variations in procedures—some requiring oral, written, or online requests—violate the right to access justice and natural justice principles and cause delays.

The BLA proposes an automated listing system ensuring all newly filed matters are placed before the relevant bench within four days, eliminating the need for mentioning.

The court posted the matter for hearing on February 27.
