BPNI Accuses Amul of Violating IMS Act Over Infant Formula Promotion

The Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) has filed a formal complaint with the Union government against Amul, alleging that the company promoted its liquid ready-to-feed infant formula in violation of the Infant Milk Substitutes (IMS) Act, 1992.

BPNI claims that the promotion contravenes Sections 6 and 9 of the Act, which prohibit all forms of advertising of infant milk substitutes and the use of child-friendly imagery to enhance product appeal.

Amul has denied any violation, stating that its products fully comply with the IMS Act. It also clarified that the referenced webpage link is inactive and reiterated its adherence to BPNI guidelines.
