Calcutta HC Denies Bail to Ex-Education Minister in Recruitment Scam

The Calcutta High Court has denied bail to former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and four others in a recruitment scam, citing the severity of the charges.

Chatterjee, who served as education minister from 2011 to 2021, is implicated in a cash-for-jobs scandal affecting state-aided schools. He and the others have been in custody for nearly two years.

A split bail verdict with Justice Banerjee favoring it and Justice Sinha opposing it was referred to Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty for resolution.
