The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to issue guidelines on the use of barricades on national highways to reduce the number of accidents caused by speeding cars colliding with stationary barricades.
The petitioner's Counsel claimed that barriers were being placed on the highways illegally & a lawyer had also suffered a serious accident while traveling on a national highway due to barricades.
Thereafter, the bench directed to illuminate the barricades and to provide adequate advance warning to motorists in order to avoid accidents.
