The Calcutta High Court held that installing CCTV cameras inside the residential portion of the house without the consent of the co-occupants or co-trustees amounts to a violation of the right to privacy.
Referring to Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd.) and Anr. Vs Union of India court ruled that the dignity, autonomy, and identity of an individual cannot be violated.
The appellant challenged the installation of cameras, which respondents installed in and around the suit property to keep vigil on the precious collections and did not communicate to the appellant.
The court ordered that the appellant deserved to get an order for restraining the operation of such a camera, which appears to invade the fort of his intrinsic right to privacy.
