The Calcutta High Court quashed a 2018 FIR against actress Zareen Khan concerning her alleged failure to appear at a Kali Puja event despite a ₹12 lakh payment.
Justice Bibhas Ranjan De ruled that the issue was a contractual breach, not a criminal offence, emphasizing that criminal courts should not be misused for settling civil disputes.
The Court noted a civil suit on the matter was already pending in Mumbai.
The FIR, filed under IPC Sections 406, 420, 506, and 120B, alleged financial loss and intimidation.
The High Court upheld that contractual disputes should be addressed through civil remedies.
