Calcutta HC Upholds NUJS VC's Dismissal of Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Calcutta High Court upheld the Local Complaints Committee's (LCC) decision to dismiss a sexual harassment complaint against NUJS Vice-Chancellor Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti.

The complaint, filed on December 26, 2023, alleged inappropriate advances and linked professional benefits to personal interactions from 2019 to April 2023.

The LCC dismissed the complaint for being filed beyond the three-month limit set by the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act but a fresh investigation was ordered by a single-judge bench.

The Court overturned the previous single bench's order, restoring the LCC's findings due to a lack of credible evidence and adherence to procedural timelines.
