The CBI has arrested a CGST Deputy Commissioner posted in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, along with four others, in a ₹70 lakh bribery case.
The arrests followed a trap operation where two CGST superintendents were caught red-handed, allegedly accepting bribe money on behalf of the officer.
The accused were reportedly demanding ₹1.5 crore to extend undue favours to private firms in GST evasion matters.
Searches led to the seizure of ₹1.60 crore in cash, property documents, and gold jewellery, exposing a wider corruption racket within the tax office.
