CBSE to Update Class XI–XII Legal Studies Syllabus with New Criminal Laws from 2026-27

The CBSE will revise the Legal Studies curriculum for Classes XI and XII starting in the 2026-27 academic year to include key legal reforms such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) that replaced colonial-era laws.

The update also covers the repeal of outdated provisions like triple talaq, sedition, and Section 377, which criminalised homosexuality.

CBSE will form an expert committee and may hire a content development agency to prepare NEP-aligned, engaging textbooks.

The curriculum aims to reflect landmark judgments and doctrines, supporting students pursuing law, governance, or public policy careers.
