CCI orders probe into PVR Inox over 'unfair fee' charged to film producers

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has directed a detailed investigation into PVR INOX for allegedly abusing its dominant position by continuing to charge a Virtual Print Fee (VPF) from film producers.

In its September 30 order, the CCI observed that levying VPF for digital projection appears to be an unfair trade practice that could distort competition in the film exhibition market.

The multiplex chain’s conduct was found to prima facie violate provisions of the Competition Act. The Commission has instructed the Director General to conduct a comprehensive probe into the allegations.
