Centre Allows Private Entities to Use Aadhaar for Authentication Under Amended Rules

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has notified the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025, allowing private entities to use Aadhaar authentication for providing various services. 

Entities must apply through a designated portal, with approvals granted by UIDAI and MeitY. 

The amendment aims to expand Aadhaar-based authentication in sectors like e-commerce, travel, healthcare, and hospitality, enhancing ease of living and service accessibility. 

The government highlighted that the move will boost innovation and public service efficiency while ensuring secure and seamless Aadhaar-based verification across industries.
