The Central Government has set a structured timeline for compliance with amendments in the labelling provisions under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The changes will come into effect on either January 1st or July 1st, allowing a 180-day period from date of notification for businesses to comply.
This initiative seeks to improve transparency, provide accurate product details, and safeguard consumer rights, while also easing the compliance process for companies.
In special situations, decisions about implementation may be made on a case-by-case basis.
The rules promote fair trade by requiring clear labels on packaged products, enabling consumers to make informed decisions.
