The Centre has notified the appointment of Advocate Aarti Sathe, along with Ajit Bhagwanrao Kadethankar and Sushil Manohar Ghodeswar, as additional judges of the Bombay High Court for two years.
The move follows the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation on July 28. Sathe, a former Maharashtra BJP spokesperson, resigned from all political posts before her appointment.
Opposition leaders, however, have raised concerns, calling it biased and a threat to judicial independence and the basic principle of separation of powers.
With these appointments, the strength of the Bombay High Court rises to 69 against a sanctioned strength of 94.
