Centre Introduces Bills to Remove PM, CMs, Ministers Detained for 30 Days

The Centre has tabled three constitutional amendment bills in the Lok Sabha to remove the Prime Minister, Union ministers, Chief Ministers, and State/UT ministers if they are arrested or detained for 30 consecutive days on serious criminal charges carrying a minimum of five years’ imprisonment.

Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, covering Articles 75, 164, 239AA, and Section 54 of the J&K Reorganisation Act.

The President or Governor would declare the post vacant on the 31st day. While the government called it a step for accountability, the Opposition slammed the move as “unconstitutional,” warning it could be misused against political rivals.
