MeitY Releases Draft Rules for Online Gaming Act, Invites Comments by Oct 31

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has released draft rules under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025, inviting stakeholders' feedback until October 31.

The rules are designed to operationalise the Act, and provide for recognition, categorisation, and registration of online games, establishment of the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI), grievance redressal mechanisms, and penalties for non-compliance.

Notably, the draft proposes making violations like offering money-based games cognizable and non-bailable, allowing warrantless search and seizure powers for authorised officers
