Centre Notifies New Rules for Traffic Radar Equipment to Measure Vehicle Speed

The Legal Metrology Division of the Department of Consumer Affairs has introduced new rules for radar devices that measure vehicle speed, as outlined in the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011.

These regulations will come into effect on July 1, 2025, allowing industries time to adjust.

The aim is to enhance road safety and improve traffic enforcement by ensuring that radar systems are verified and approved for accuracy.

With these verified radar devices, law enforcement will be more effective in enforcing speed limits, preventing accidents, and reducing road damage. 

The final regulations were developed after consulting the public.
