Centre Notifies Transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma Amid Cash Controversy

The Central Government has notified the transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma back to his parent Allahabad High Court. This decision follows an incident on March 14, when piles of cash were discovered after a fire broke out at Justice Varma’s residence.

CJI Sanjiv Khanna has also constituted a three-member judges committee to conduct an inquiry. Amid growing scrutiny, a PIL had been filed before the Apex court seeking an FIR against Justice Varma. However, the court rejected the request, citing the ongoing in-house inquiry.

The transfer was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium. Justice Varma has denied the accusations, calling them a “conspiracy” to frame him.
