The Kerala government has sought to withdraw two Supreme Court petitions filed in 2023 over delays by the Governor and President in granting assent to state bills.
Senior Advocate K.K. Venugopal argued that the matter is now infructuous after the Supreme Court’s Tamil Nadu Governor verdict clarified timelines for assent.
However, the Attorney General and Solicitor General opposed withdrawal, citing pending constitutional issues and a likely Article 143 Presidential reference.
The bench, led by Justice P.S. Narasimha, noted Kerala’s right to withdraw but deferred the matter to July 25, 2025, for further consideration.
