
The Central Government informed the Lok Sabha that it is reviewing the adequacy of the Copyright Act,1957 in light of legal challenges arising from generative artificial intelligence.
In a written reply to a question by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has constituted an eight-member expert committee to examine the issue.

Questions relating to authorship, ownership and copyrightability of AI-generated works are being examined and are proposed to be covered in Part II, which is currently under review.
