Centre Tells Delhi High Court It Will Frame Policy For Empanelment Of Government Lawyers

The Union government informed the Delhi High Court that it will frame a policy for the empanelment of lawyers to represent the Centre before various courts and tribunals.

The submission was made during the hearing of a PIL challenging the recent empanelment of advocates for the Central government. The petition alleged that the list included advocates who had not cleared the All India Bar Examination.

Dismissing the petition, the Court directed the government to treat the plea as a representation.

It granted three weeks to examine the issues raised and three months to take a decision on framing clear guidelines for empanelment of government lawyers.
