'Nothing much India can do', Centre Tells SC Ahead of Kerala Nurse Nimisha Priya's Yemen Execution Date

  • Case Name: Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council v. Union of India

The Central government told the Supreme Court that it has exhausted all diplomatic and legal options to save Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, who faces the death penalty in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni citizen.

Attorney General R Venkataramani informed a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that the government has pursued negotiations, informal talks, and requests for clemency, but none have succeeded.

Although 'blood money' has been arranged by petitioner groups, the victim’s family has rejected it, citing honour concerns. The Court posted the matter for further hearing on July 18.
