Champak Magazine Files Trademark Infringement Suit Against BCCI Over AI Robot Dog Name "Champak"

Champak Magazine has filed a trademark infringement suit in the Delhi High Court against BCCI, challenging the naming of IPL’s new AI robot dog “Champak.”

The magazine alleges that this use infringes its registered trademark and exploits its brand commercially.

The Court raised concern about the lack of clear pleadings on the commercial use and reputation required under Section 29(4) of the Trademarks Act.

Representing BCCI, Senior Advocate J Sai Deepak argued “Champak” is a common name and not exclusive. The Court issued notice and set the next hearing for July 9. (Delhi Press Patra Prakashan Private Limited v. BCCI & Anr)
