The Supreme Court has directed the Chandigarh Administration to implement 3% OBC reservation in educational admissions for the 2025–26 academic year.
The order came after the Union Government informed the Court that a notification enabling OBC quota in the Union Territory would be issued within a week.
The Court was hearing an SLP challenging the MBBS admission prospectus of Government Medical College, Chandigarh, which lacked OBC reservation.
A bench led by CJI B.R. Gavai clarified that the quota will apply to admissions where counselling hasn’t begun and will increase in phases to 27% by the sixth year.
The matter will be reviewed next week to ensure compliance.
