Chhattisgarh HC Took Suo Motu Cognizance on Lack of Toilets in Govt Schools, Calls It ‘Shameful’

The Chhattisgarh High Court took suo moto cognizance of a Dainik Bhaskar report stating that over 350 government schools in Bilaspur lack functional toilets, causing hardship for students and staff, especially females.

A bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal directed the School Education Secretary to file an affidavit by February 10, questioning the misuse of state funds.

The Court noted that female teachers suffer health issues, and girl students may drop out due to poor sanitation.

Expressing concern over hygiene and safety, the Court called the situation shameful and ordered immediate corrective measures.
