CJI BR Gavai Restores Supreme Court’s Old Logo, Removes Glass Partitions to Revive Traditional Identity

Chief Justice B.R. Gavai has restored the Supreme Court's old logo and decided to remove glass partitions from its corridors, reversing changes introduced during ex-CJI D.Y. Chandrachud’s tenure.

In 2024, a new insignia was unveiled featuring the Ashoka Chakra, Constitution, and “Yato Dharmastato Jayah” to mark SC's 75th anniversary. However, CJI Gavai restored the old logo, signaling a return to the court’s traditional identity.

Glass panels, installed to modernize and improve air-conditioning, will now be removed after lawyers requested preserving the court’s openness and heritage.

The decision reflects a shift from modern updates to preserving the court’s original architecture and legacy.
