CJI Gavai Bars Senior Advocates from Making Oral Mentions in Court No. 1 from August 11

Chief Justice B. R. Gavai has announced that from August 11, 2025, designated Senior Advocates will not be allowed to make oral mentions in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court.

The move came after Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi attempted to mention a matter, prompting the CJI to say that restricting seniors would give junior lawyers a chance to step up.

He directed the Court Master to issue a formal notice, clarifying that from Monday, only juniors can mention cases in his court.

The CJI added that the restriction is limited to Court No. 1 for now, and similar changes in other courts remain undecided.
