During a Supreme Court hearing, CJI Surya Kant shared a personal anecdote regarding his early career to encourage a young Advocate-on-Record.
The CJI recounted that after qualifying for the judicial services interview as a law student, a senior High Court judge summoned him. Initially, the judge bluntly told him to "get out" after he expressed his desire to join the judiciary.
However, the next day, the judge offered life-changing advice: “Don't become a judicial officer. The Bar is waiting for you.”
Inspired, the CJI skipped the interview to pursue litigation, eventually rising to lead the Indian judiciary.
