CJI BR Gavai has urged Bar Associations nationwide to explore ways of financially supporting young lawyers entering the profession.
Speaking at a Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) book release event on May 21, the CJI praised SCBA’s initiative of raising ₹50 crores through CSR funds for Group Mediclaim Health Insurance.
He called this a model for other associations, stressing that a strong bar forms the foundation of an independent judiciary.
He highlighted the financial hardships faced by new lawyers and called upon senior advocates and associations to ensure not just mentorship, but also dignified remuneration and support systems like health coverage.
