Colin Gonsalves Moves Supreme Court Against Verdict on 3-Year Practice Rule for Judicial Appointments

Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its May 20 ruling that requires candidates to have three years of legal practice to qualify for Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts.

The petition, filed through advocate Satya Mitra, contests the decision on 17 grounds, including the disregard of multiple Law Commission reports and the Second Judicial Pay Commission's recommendations.

The petition also highlights India’s robust judicial training infrastructure and raises concerns about procedural fairness, claiming key affidavits were not disclosed to aspirants, denying them a fair chance to respond or participate.
