Delhi Consumer Forum Orders Amazon, Appario to Refund Wrong Laptop Delivery

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Delhi, directed Amazon and Appario Retail to refund ₹61,990 to Harjas Singh Sodhi and pay compensation after delivering an obsolete IBM ThinkPad instead of the HP Pavilion he ordered.

The bench, led by President SS Malhotra, held that the e-commerce platform failed in its duty to ensure correct delivery and rejected Amazon’s claim that excessive refund requests barred repayment. Both Amazon and Appario were found jointly liable for a deficiency in service.

The forum also awarded ₹10,000 for mental agony and ₹7,500 for litigation costs, emphasising that online sellers must implement protocols to prevent delivery errors.
