A contempt petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging June’s decision to reassign Chandigarh’s NEET‑PG Union Territory quota seats into the All‑India Quota (AIQ).
The petitioners argue this violates the Supreme Court’s Tanvi Behl v. Shrey Goel judgment, which barred residence‑based reservation in PG medical admissions and mandated state quota seats be filled on NEET merit.
A bench including Justices KV Vishwanathan and N Kotiswar Singh referred the contempt plea and related notices to CJI BR Gavai, seeking that it be listed before the bench that delivered the Tanvi Behl verdict.
Additional Solicitor General Archana Pathak Dave argued the judgment didn’t specify how seats should be filled, noting admissions are already complete.
