The Delhi High Court's senior advocate designation process has faced controversy after committee member Sudhir Nandrajog refused to sign the final list of 70 selected lawyers, citing procedural flaws and exclusion from decision-making. Nandrajog resigned, raising concerns about the process’s transparency, particularly with the Chief Justice Manmohan’s Supreme Court elevation.
Despite full court approval, Nandrajog's objections suggest deviation from the Indira Jaisingh Guidelines (2023), which laid down guidelines for a fair and transparent process.
As per the guidelines, candidates must be at least 45 years old with 10 years of experience, either as an advocate or through service as a District Judge or a Tribunal member, and their practice should be primarily before the Supreme Court. Nandrajog’s resignation undermines the process's credibility.
A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the aforesaid controversy.
