Delhi Court Rejects Plea Over MF Husain Paintings, Holds Display at Delhi Gallery Caused No Public Incitement

A Delhi court has refused to order an FIR against DAG (formerly Delhi Art Gallery) for displaying MF Husain’s controversial artworks, holding that no communal unrest or public incitement arose.

Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Partap Laler dismissed a revision petition challenging a magistrate’s order that had declined to direct a police investigation.

The petitioner alleged that two paintings depicting Hindu deities with nude figures outraged religious sentiments.

However, the Court said evidence already exists in the ongoing complaint case, and a police probe was unnecessary. DAG denied wrongdoing, stressing its commitment to artistic freedom.
