Court granted Interim Relief to youth accused of rape by Bumble Date

The Karnataka HC stayed proceedings in a rape case against a 22-year-old Bengaluru man, accused by a woman he met on the Bumble app.

Their meeting led them to an OYO room, after which she accused him of rape under Section 376 of the IPC. The accused claimed that it was consensual sex. 

The Court noted that chats between the two were not made a chargesheet and all the witness statements were ‘Verbatim identical’ and remarked that the case highlighted the potential dangers of dating apps. Interim relief was granted to the man.
