The Allahabad High Court has stressed the need for the timely disposal of maintenance cases, noting that the sufferer is usually the wife.
Justice Nalin Kumar Srivastava made the observation while directing a Gautam Budh Nagar Family Court to decide Anjali Singh’s pending plea since 2023 within six months.
She had alleged delays due to her husband’s non-cooperation and said she was left without financial support.
The Court emphasised the importance of sensitivity in such matters and urged all stakeholders, including judges, police, lawyers, and parties, to help prevent unnecessary delays. The court said that Section 125 CrPC cases, or their BNSS equivalent, should be handled with urgency to ensure fair relief.
