The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has approached the Delhi High Court seeking permission to transplant 26 trees for the Supreme Court’s premises expansion project.
The project aims to create additional courtrooms, judges' chambers, and facilities for lawyers and litigants.
Justice Jasmeet Singh issued notice to the Forest Department and sought a status report from Amicus Curiae Satyakam. The matter will be heard on January 31.
The CPWD assured compensatory plantation of 260+ trees, including neem and peepal, near the Supreme Court premises.
Earlier orders from the High Court mandated its approval before granting tree transplantation permissions.
